PRAYERS of the PEOPLE
Sunday,
February 19, 2012
Let us pray for the
whole people of God in Christ Jesus and for all people according to their needs.
In the Transfiguration of Jesus, God gave those around him, and
us, an admonition. He said, “Listen to him.” God the Father was
validating Jesus’ position as Son of God, just as God did at the time of Jesus’
baptism in the River Jordan when a voice from heaven proclaimed, “This is my
beloved Son in whom I am well pleased.” God doesn’t hide himself from those
who are open to see him and understand his ways. Lord, we open our eyes to see
you and our ears to hear your voice.
Lord in your mercy…
May the Church Universal open its eyes and ears to the work of
your Holy Spirit on earth that it would bear fruit for your kingdom. Raise up
faithful servants to accomplish your will and bring more people to your saving
grace. Lord in your mercy…
We pray for our nation, state and city; our president, governor,
mayor and the leaders of the world. May we, as a blessed people, be a light on a
hill, reflecting the glory and love of God to a world living in pain and
suffering. Out of our abundance, give us compassion to feed the hungry, clothe
the naked, bring healing and restoration to the dying. Give wisdom to our
leaders to make choices that are good for all people. …Remember those who are
committed to fight for freedom wherever they serve.
Lord in your mercy…
Bless this Body of Christ, its pastor and people. May God’s glory
shine in our faces as we serve our community in the name of Jesus Christ.
…Surround with your mercy those who have asked for prayer. Heal their diseases,
comfort their grief and mend their brokenness. ..And for what else do the people
of God pray or praise? Lord
in your mercy…
Saint Paul gives
us the reason we serve: “For God, who said, “Let light shine out of
darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the
knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.” Having seen his
face and received his glory, we share his goodness and love as we go forth to
serve him, in Jesus’ all-powerful name. Amen.
