Roeding Carnival 5/23/13 from 5-7 p.m.

The Roeding carnival is this Thursday, 5/23/13 from 5-7:30, and we are once again running the Cake Walk.  We will plan to wear our Good Shepherd T-shirts and have some fun with the families of our adopted school.  Anyone who would like to bring baked goods will need to have them to the church office by 4 p.m. on Thursday.  If you 'd like to help during any of the carnival, please see Julie.  Even if you can’t or don’t want to work the cake walk booth, do consider coming out to get to know some of the families, and to support them with our presence. Buy dinner or play some games.  Maybe you could win a cake!!

Book Fair News

We had a fantastic turnout for our first ever Book Fair to benefit our kids at Roeding.  We bought over $1000 worth of books in just one day, and well over 100 new books were given right back to our kids.  Thank you! Kudos to Brenda Hoffman, who had the idea and made it happen!

Taking Root—VBS for ALL

6/23-6/27/13

Hunger is a big problem in the world—so big we frequently think there’s little we can do.  Come find out all the ways we can help at this year’s Vacation Bible School.  Dinner is served at 6 p.m., and classes are from 6:30 to 8:15.  Taking Root is an ELCA bible based curriculum, and each lesson stands alone, but you won’t want to miss any!  Don’t worry— though it’s a serious subject, we’ll still have plenty of fun, and the kids will create amazing crafts, play lots of fun games, sing songs, and much more along with the lessons.

All Church Barbecue 6/9/13 @ 11:45

Get ready for an all-church spring barbecue on June 9th which will begin around 11:45, right after the second service.  We will welcome Pastor Ted and Paul back from Fiji, play some bingo, and eat together.  There will also be bocce ball & croquet for the kids and those who want some extra activity!  People who attend first service are invited to stay for Sunday school (or help set up or grill burgers!) or come back before noon to join with those who are attending the second service.   We will serve up hot dogs and hamburgers with ice cream sundaes for dessert, and the congregation is asked to bring a salad, side, or cookies to share if you are able.  Drinks will be provided.  If you would like to help grill or set up, please talk to Dana, Lori, Janet, Tom,

Take Me Out to the Ballgame - June 7th

Thrivent is sponsoring another Lutheran Night with the Grizzlies this year on Friday, June 7th.  Cost is $15 which must be paid by Sunday, June 2nd.  Sign up on the clipboard or the bulletin board in the narthex, or send me an email: 13jdixon13@gmail.com.  Because Thrivent wants only one check, please either pay in cash or write a check out to Julie Werfelmann, and I will write the single check to them.  This fee covers your ticket to the game, dinner, and the fireworks after the game.  Dinner is served from 5:35 - 7:05 (game time) in the Tecate Cantina (hot dogs, chips, soda, ice cream.)  It’s been a lot of fun in the past, so let’s fill those stands with lots of Good Shepherd folk!  Wear you GSLC t-shirts and we’ll hang out with other Lutherans. See me with any questions.

Our sanctuary was filled with doves on Pentecost, 5/19/13, and many worshipers were sent home with smaller paper doves symbolizing the presence of the Holy Spirit.  A big thank you once more to Susan Gutierrez for sharing her artistic vision to make worship more meaningful and to help us celebrate the birthday of the church.  (Photo credit also belongs to her.)

Come Watch our Garden Grow!

Every year the soil is a little better and the work is a little easier. Take a moment to check out the north side of the community center where you'll see cucumber, pepper, and tomato plants (just to name a few) all growing happily.  Thanks so much to Tom Rogers, Jill Anderson, Penny Fey, Juana On along with Zoe, Ali, Miley, and Ryan, and Paul & Julie Werfelmann for coming out to prepare the earth and plant everything.  Thanks also to Tom for buying the pizza and to Jill & Tom for purchasing all the plants!  If you'd like to help with the watering/weeding schedule, please see Tom, Penny, or Julie.

Don’t Forget

Kids’ Sunday School is every Sunday from 10-10:45/10:50 in Julie’s office.

We meet in Jacobson’s to get our snacks, and then we dig into the Bible!

Saturday Kids’ Club 3-5

Nearly every Saturday the children of Good Shepherd get together in the Community Center for some good quality bonding time!  We usually do some sort of “serve” project, take some time to learn something new about how much God loves us, and always have a good time together. Questions? Contact Julie @ 287-3457 or 13jdixon13@gmail.com.  Also, please call or email me to be added to the regular email list of youth and children’s upcoming events/opportunities for growth and fun!  We’d love to have you join us.

Our Food Pantry at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church is truly blessed
by the kind food donations received from our congregation recently.
Needy clients referred to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church by LOVE In the Name of Christ
will benefit by these food donations and loving our neighbors as ourselves will glorify God’s holy name.
32 children, 1 infant and 44 adults were recipients of God's love through the Food Pantry in 2007. Bless you!

Thanks to the congregation of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church for providing

food for our food panty. 40 adults were served, including 4 disabled adults,

& 31 children in 2008.

Thanks for the generosity of Good Shepherd over the years for the contributions to our food pantry. Many seniors, disabled, mutes, adults, teenagers, children & infants in the City of Fresno are ecstatic upon receiving food pantry boxes. Be it a run down trailer home park, run down Golden State motel room, living conditions with no air in triple digits,  homeless with no job or hope in sight, or borrowing a friend’s transportation, the recipients’ eyes light up in appreciation of the blessing they have received from Good Shepherd. I am humbled & overwhelmed by the warm handshakes, hugs & the effusive thanks I receive upon delivering the food pantry boxes.
