BUCK-A-CHICK

This Easter, Good Shepherd will be joining congregations from across the country by having a “Buck-a-Chick” sale. Throughout Lent you can purchase and decorate a paper chick for yourself or in honor of a loved one for just one dollar!  A dollar is all it takes to provide a family living in poverty with a little chick. Soon enough, the chick begins producing eggs. Its eggs make nutritious, protein-rich meals, and can be sold at the marketplace for income – helping a family escape hunger for good.  At Easter we will send a check for the total raised by our congregation to the ELCA, and the chicks will be provided through ELCA Good Gifts.

Shrove Sunday

Our Shrove Sunday group this year was small but very enthusiastic!  We made masks and/or crowns, loaded up pancakes with all kinds of amazing toppings, and “pigged out” on Janet’s delicious ham.  It was Jimmy Sanborn this year who found the baby Jesus in his piece of King Cake.  Thank you to Woody Wilk and Sean Walker for flipping those pancakes, to Janet McQuillan for buying the food, to Jen Wilk for baking the yummy King Cake, and to everyone who stayed to clean up.

All Church Valentine's Lunch
Thank you to everyone who helped with the Valentine lunch on February 12th.  It was a wonderful time spent with one another!  Do check out the bulletin board with all the photo booth pictures in the hallway between Jacobson and the sanctuary.  Thank you to outgoing council members for providing food and organization, to Judy Smith, Elaine Koll, Jim Sanborn, Will Hayes, & Chris Trask for all their kitchen help, and most especially to Carol and Francis Sullivan for purchasing and serving the lasagna and for cleaning EVERYTHING up afterwards.

ELCA Gathering News

We have four high school youth registered to attend the National Gathering in July in New Orleans, and we have some upcoming fundraisers we wanted to let you know about.  We are currently working on a Good Shepherd congregational T-shirt.  We are hoping to get them ready and available this spring for around $10-$12.  We will also be applying for Thrivent matching funds.  If you have ideas or suggestions for the design or wording, please share them with Courtney or Kevin Bolm, Joshua Farr, Jimmy Sanborn, or Julie Dixon.  We will also be providing another car wash this spring or early summer and a bake sale for which we will need lots of your wonderful baked goodies!  Thank you so very much for your support and your prayers.

We will be following the ELCA curriculum as we get ready for this trip.  From their website, here is the description of our study: “The full six-month curriculum of the Getting Ready Materials are designed to engage the theme, citizens with the saints, and the Gathering program core practices — Discipleship, Peacemaking and Justice. Each session will focus on one of the truths that help us deepen our understanding of being made into ‘citizens with the saints.’"  We are so excited about this trip!

Our Food Pantry at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church is truly blessed
by the kind food donations received from our congregation recently.
Needy clients referred to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church by LOVE In the Name of Christ
will benefit by these food donations and loving our neighbors as ourselves will glorify God’s holy name.
32 children, 1 infant and 44 adults were recipients of God's love through the Food Pantry in 2007. Bless you!

Thanks to the congregation of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church for providing

food for our food panty. 40 adults were served, including 4 disabled adults,

& 31 children in 2008.

Thanks for the generosity of Good Shepherd over the years for the contributions to our food pantry. Many seniors, disabled, mutes, adults, teenagers, children & infants in the City of Fresno are ecstatic upon receiving food pantry boxes. Be it a run down trailer home park, run down Golden State motel room, living conditions with no air in triple digits,  homeless with no job or hope in sight, or borrowing a friend’s transportation, the recipients’ eyes light up in appreciation of the blessing they have received from Good Shepherd. I am humbled & overwhelmed by the warm handshakes, hugs & the effusive thanks I receive upon delivering the food pantry boxes.
