Good Shepherd's History

The vision began in 1953 when members of First Lutheran Church started a plan to build a new church in the rural area of northwest Fresno.

A Sunday School program started in 1956 with over 30 children in attendance and a Worship service began later that year.

The facilities were small and inadequate but the dreams and excitement of the people were limitless and in April 1958, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church was incorporated.

The sacrificial giving of that original small group of people has built the foundation of WHO we are and WHOSE we are. With God's help, we can join those early pioneers and continue to BUILD ON A GREAT FOUNDATION.

Good Shepherd's Mission Statement

Sharing the love of Jesus.

Good Shepherd's Vision Statement:

The shared wisdom of what the preferred future of the church will be...what we are becoming. Our vision is to live the Gospel of Jesus Christ and be an instrument of God’s will to expand His Kingdom to the entire world. This will happen when we:

bulletGrow as disciples by being a center of Lutheran worship.
bulletProvide love, hope, and acceptance to all to the glory of God.
bulletInitiate uplifting ministries to children, youth, adult and seniors by drama, music programs, after-school programs, and the building of a youth building.
bulletProvide opportunities for all ages to serve their Lord and His church.

What The Building Will Accomplish

There will be more space for the many and varied ministries of GSLC.

Give youth a safe place to gather.

bullet

We will expand and enrich our Christian education program with two more classrooms and thus serve more people.

bullet

We will have multimedia presentation ability.

We will be more energy efficient, thereby lowering our PG&E bills.

bullet

There will be better security.

bullet

There will be office space for a Youth Director.

Pastor's Statement

Dear Members And Friends of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church,

It is with joy and anticipation that I write this to you! As Ephesians 2:19-20 tells us, "So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are citizens with the saints and also members of the household of God, built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Jesus Christ himself as the cornerstone." I invite you to participate in this incredible opportunity we have before us. As a community of miraculous expectations, we boldly step forward building upon our foundation...

Jesus Christ our Lord.
Come join us and
LET'S BUILD ON A GREAT FOUNDATION!

God's Peace,

Pastor Ted
